Another year has come and gone and now it is time for the next Chodsko Folk Festival. The largest celebration of Domažlice and the whole Chodsko area is a traditional review of the rare ethnography and magnificient folklore from the entire region. The festival will be filled with many interesting musical performances and a wide offering of arts and crafts based on folk culture traditions.
I firmly believe that the main organizer, The Town Cultural Center of Domažlice, has prepared for us all, from near and far, an eventful program where everybody will find something to their own liking.
Jan Látka, Mayor of Domažlice
Throughout more than five decades of existence, the Chodsko Folk Festival has progressively changed its face. Although above all the event has become a great festival reminding us of a unique, still lively tradition in Bohemia, many people of Domažlice and the visitors may be interested in some novelties I would like to point out.
Friday fencing show, the opening of the festival, will take part in front of the town hall in the early evening, then music groups gathering their motifs from the folklore, but in a quite different array (Folklore Echoes), will fill up the stage at the gate. The number of main stages will be increased by another one – the open space outside Chodsko Castle where the Fair Stage will be set. This will supplement the Old Czech Fair by its musical, theatre, and conjuring programmes. After many years the visitors of the Chodsko Folk Festival can pay a visit to the fairground dance in the hall of The Town Cultural Centre (MKS). More than twenty show have been prepared in the frame of the main programme, besides local ensembles ones from the whole Bohemia, Moravia, Germany, Croatia, Latia, and Sweden are going to introduce themselves.
On behalf of The Town Cultural Centre Domažlice and all of the celleagues I wish you a good time at the Chodsko Folk Festival 2006.
Mgr. Kamil Jindřich, director of MKS Domažlice
Dear guests of this year’s 51st Chodsko Festival and St. Lawrence Fair.
Once again after a year we are going to be blessed by the meeting at the pilgrimage church of St. Lawrence atop Veselá hora (Merry Hill) near Domažlice. Here the pilgrimage rite will be said at 10 A.M on both Saturday and Sunday (August 12–13). Msgr. Josef Koukl, Emeritus Bishop of Litoměřice, who has accepted our invitation this year, is also looking forward to meeting you.
So I wish all of us that the prayer for the plea of St. Lawrence should strengthen us internally and renew us spiritually and I hope that the reunion with the lovely Chodsko folklore will remain in our souls forever.
Miroslav Gierga, priest in Domažlice
