About the festival
Domažlice is althe center of the Chodsko ethnographic region where the traditions of folklore bagpipe music, dance, traditions and customs are preserved in a lively manner.
Held since 1955, the Chodsko Folk Festival is one of the oldest folkloristic festivals in the Czech Republic. Presently, it always takes place on the first weekend after August 10th and is traditionally linked with Domažlice's Pilgrimage of St. Lawrence.
The principal part of the program is devoted especially to local ethnographic music and dance groups. Every year, ensembles from other parts of the Czech Republic, as well as from abroad, get an opportunity to perform.
The main program is performed on various stages (photo) and is composed of more than twenty differently directed shows. An Old Czech market in the historical center of town offers interesting variety.
